San Diego Prep Football Insider: Daniel Kries leads Poway to another big win

Every Monday during the football season, Scorebook Live California reporter Bodie De Silva highlights the top performers and the most intriguing storylines in San Diego Section high school football.

Serra beat San Diego, 41-7. While neither team is among the top 10 currently in San Diego, the Cavers entered the contest on a 15-game winning streak that included a CIF 5-A State Title in 2018. The Conquistadors led 20-7 at halftime and scored 21 unanswered in the second half. Timmy Zebroksi threw 3 touchdown passes and Dustan Ellison added 132 rushing yards and a touchdown for Serra.

St. Augustine hosted Helix in the first battle between #1 and #2 in San Diego in six seasons. The Highlanders scored early and often to build up a 38-17 lead after three quarters. The Saints added a few late touchdowns before Helix sealed things up to win 44-38.

The Santana Sultans made their mark on Friday night as dominated previously unbeaten Montgomery on the road, 35-6. Quarterback Nathan Temple led the passing attack, throwing 4 touchdowns, 3 of which were hauled in by Randall Smith. Sophomore Michael Richter helped hold down an explosive Montgomery offense by collecting 14 tackles and 3 sacks. Santana is now 5-0 and appear to have a very realistic shot to finish the regular season 10-0.

It was another huge week for La Jolla Country Day quarterback EJ Kreutzmann. In a loss to Santa Fe Christian, he was 38-for-56 for 406 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Santa Fe Christian’s Stephen Britton was fed the ball over and over on Friday afternoon. The senior running back could not be tackled, as he tallied 310 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns, averaging 11.9 yards per carry. The Eagles scored on every possession of the game with the exception of the knee they took to run out the clock.

Vista running back David Flores delivered a big performance on Friday night. The senior ran for 184 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Panthers won their 3rd straight game by 30+ points. Vista ran for 465 yards as a team with Flores, Desmond Taua, and Brian Kelly each eclipsing 100 yards.

Mt. Miguel had their passing attack working on Friday night. Junior quarterback Jacob Laverdiere went 18-for-31 for 335 yards and 3 touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Jahiem Allen-Pompey brought in 10 receptions for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Matadors took down Valhalla 46-28.

Poway junior linebacker Daniel Kries had 12 tackles and 2 sacks on Friday night at the Titans shutout Westview 20-0 to move to 4-1 on the season.
