Mira Costa has a ton of question marks after losing the bulk of its starters to graduation. Here’s an inside look at the 2019 Mustangs.

7-4 (4-1 in the Bay League, 2nd place). The Mustangs lost 34-16 to South Hills in the Division 6 quarterfinals. South Hills went on to win the Division title.

Don Morrow is going into his 27th year as head coach of the Mustangs.

WR Jackson Fischer, 5’10”, 175, Sr.

RB Ryan Moreno, 5’8”, 145, Jr.

TE/WR Danny Millea, 6’3”, 190, Jr.

DT Hank Dunlap, 6’1”, 190, Sr.

Mira Costa had an excellent 2018 season, going 4-1 in league and advancing to the Division 6 quarterfinals. Unfortunately the Mustangs were loaded with seniors who are now all gone. They also lost a couple of talented transfers.

Wide receiver Jackson Fischer is the most statistically accomplished player returning from last season. He registered 200 receiving yards in six games. The Mustangs are expecting big contributions from juniors Ryan Moreno (RB) and Danny Millea (TE/WR), although neither got much playing time last year. Defensively, Hank Dunlap (DT) will be back for his senior year, and will be asked to lead a defense with some serious turnover.

The Mustangs are thin on experience, but stronger than most in the coaching department. Entering his 27th year at Mira Costa, you can bet Don Morrow will have his team ready to play.
