Arkansas prep golf recap: The team champions in each class, the top individual players

Arkansas recently held its high school state golf championships. The following teams won state championships with their winning scores: Class 6A, boys: Little Rock Catholic (6-7), girls: Springdale Har-Ber (441);  Class 5A, boys, Hot Springs Lakeside, (341), girls,  El Dorado (256); Class 4A boys Valley View (246), girls Brookland (228); Class 3A, boys Baptist Prep (221), girls Bismarck (252); Class 2A, boys Melbourne (236), girls Conway Christian (295); Class 1A, boys, Izard County (236), girls West Side Greers Ferry (270).

Listed below are the top players in the state. The first six are reserved for players who won state championships. The other five are based on the players’ performances in the state tournament. Also listed are the players’ performances in the state overall tournament.

BOYS

Rhett South, Farmington

South won the Class 4A title with an even-par 70 at Fayetteville Country Club and the state overall title with 1-over-par 73 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock.

Andrew Payne, Little Rock Catholic

Payne won the Class 6A title with a 1-under-par 141 at Hurricane Creek Golf & Country Club in Bryant and finished second with a 75 at the state overall tournament.

Jack Henry Wise, Harding Academy

Wise won the Class 3A state title at The Creeks Golf & RV Resort in Cave Springs with a 71 by defeating Preston Nesterenko of Baptist Prep in the third hole of a playoff. He also finished tied for third with a 76 at the state overall tournament.

Denton Reilly, Izard County

Reilly won the Class 1A state title at The Course on Turkey Mountain at Horseshoe Bend with a 2-under-par 71 and shot a 96 at the state overall tournament. He also won two events at The Course at Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend.

Will Gordon, Hot Springs Lakeside

Gordon won the Class 5A state title with a 1-over-73 at Mystic Creek in El Dorado. He also finished tied for seventh with a 78 at the state overall tournament.

Luke Hanson, Maumelle Charter

Hanson won the Class 2A state title with a 72 at Cooper’s Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne and finished tied for third at the state overall tournament with a 76.

Preston Nesterenko, Baptist Prep

Nesterenko lost to Wise on the third hole of a playoff in the Class 3A state tournament. He finished tied for seventh at the state overall tournament with a 78.

Jake Bartlett, Bentonville

Bartlett finished second in Class 6A with a 143 and finished 11th in the state overall tournament with a 80.

Cooper Williams, Crossett

Williams finished second in Class 4A with a 72 and finished 14th in the state overall tournament with a 84.

Luke Fletcher, Mountain View and Rex Farmer, Manila

Both players finished tied for third in Class 3A with a 72. Fletcher shot an 87 in the state overall tournament.

GIRLS

Grace Killcrease, Springdale Har-Ber

Kilcrease, who has committed to Tulsa, won the Class 6A state title by shooting a 136 over the 36-hole tournament, including a 64 in the final round at the Lost Springs Golf & Athletic Club in Rogers. She also won the overall tournament with a 74 at Pleasant Valley.

Anna Kate Nichols, Pulaski Academy

Nichols won the Class 4A state title by shooting a 67 at Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro. She finished fourth at the state overall tournament with a 78.

Emma Hester, Sheridan

Hester won the Class 5A state title by shooting a 76 at Glenwood Country Club. She finished sixth at the state overall tournament with an 80.

Anna Cain, Bismarck

Cain won the Class 3A state title at Glenwood Country Club with a 76, helping the Lady Lions win their fourth consecutive state title. She finished ninth with a 89 at the state overall tournament.

Kendra Harness, Westside Greers Ferry

Harness won her third consecutive Class 1A girls golf title by shooting a 79 and leading her team to a third consecutive state championship. She also finished with a 97 at the state overall tournament.

Presill Webb, Conway St. Joseph

Webb won the Class 2A state title by shooting a 83 at Turkey Mountain Golf Course in Horseshoe Bend. She finished eighth at the state overall tournament with a 82.

Emma Butler, Brookland

Brookland finished second in Class 4A with a 69 and shot a 94 in the state overall tournament.

Charlie Whorton, Springdale Har-Ber

Whorton finished second in Class 6A with a 146.

Ellen Spigner, Nashville; Caroline Prestridge, Valley View; and Tori Milton, Crossett

All three finished tied for third in Class 4A. Spigner finished third in the overall tournament with a 76.
