SBLive 6A Arkansas Power Rankings: No. 1 Greenwood and No. 2 Benton set for showdown

Every week during the 2020 football season, SBLive Arkansas will rank the top high school football teams in every classification.

Here are the 6A rankings as compiled by SBLive reporters Connor Morrissette and Lance Smith.

1. Greenwood (7-0)

It’s time for what might be the 6A regular-season game of the year as the top-two-ranked squads clash. Greenwood is unbeaten and nearly untouched despite facing the likes of Har-Ber, Bentonville West and Siloam Springs. The Bulldogs will have to face the next two teams in line in order to officially enter the playoffs as the team to beat.

2. Benton (5-2)

The Panthers are at absolute peak form for their shot at Greenwood and the top ranking in the division. They started their season with a blowout loss against Bryant and a narrow one against LR Catholic in two of their first three games to move to 1-2. Their four-game win streak consists of wins over Russellville, Siloam Springs, Parkview and Mountain Home.

3. Lake Hamilton (6-0)

For all that talk about who’s the best squad in 6A entering the playoffs, unbeaten Lake Hamilton will soon have ample opportunity to dominate that discussion. The Wolves are coming off a strong win over Siloam Springs and will be favored this week against Van Buren, although victory is far from guaranteed. Should they win, they’ll enter the last two weeks of the season unbeaten — just in time to face Benton and Greenwood.

4. Jonesboro (4-2)

Jonesboro takes on Searcy this week in another can’t-miss 6A matchup. It’s riding a three-game win streak after beating strong foes in Sheridan, Pine Bluff and West Memphis.

5. Parkview (4-1)

The Patriots might prove to be the best team in the division when all is said and done. They just won’t get to prove it until the playoffs, with a 10-point loss to Benton in the books and their shot against Greenwood canceled. Parkview was nearly upset by Van Buren last week but pulled out a one-score victory. This week the Patriots face Russellville, which is as dangerous as a team gets for 1-6.

Searcy, Pine Bluff, Siloam Springs, Van Buren
