Every week during the 2020 football season, SBLive Arkansas will rank the top high school football teams in every classification.
Here are the 2A rankings as compiled by SBLive reporters Connor Morrissette and Lance Smith.
1. Fordyce (4-0)
Clarendon was a solid foe, but the Redbugs made quick work of the Lions in a 51-16 rout. Fordyce will be heavily favored to make it 5-0 against Carlisle.
2. Junction City (2-1)
Several teams have had scheduling issues because of the pandemic, but Junction City has had it especially rough. After starting the season with a close loss to Harmony Grove and rebounding to reach 2-1, the Dragons had a bye week, followed by a cancellation by England, followed by a last-minute attempt to play Blytheville instead, which didn’t work out. Now, they have another bye week. Their biggest game of the regular season — against Fordyce, which is rolling and beat Junction City in the final last season — looms Oct. 9, and the Dragons will not have played in a month.
3. Gurdon (3-1)
It’s now three consecutive wins for the Go-Devils after a close loss in their season opener against Prescott. They have a strong chance of making it four in a row this week against Hampton.
4. Des Arc (4-0)
Coming off a bye week, the Eagles are scheduled to play Mount Ida this Friday.
5. Poyen (4-0)
Also 4-0 and coming off a bye, Poyen is facing another 4-0 squad in Dierks. The Outlaws entered the season under the radar, but their resume includes an eye-opening rout of Magnet Cove, so Poyen likely is set for its biggest test yet.
