Here are the candidates for the WaFd Bank Arizona High School Volleyball Athlete of the Week for Sept. 13-19 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Gillian Bachali, Junior, Campo Verde – Bachali had 18 digs, 12 kills and four aces in the Coyotes’ 3-0 win against Desert Mountain on Wednesday.

Neomi Beach, Junior, Hamilton – With 10 kills, seven digs and three blocks, Beach’s solid all-around performance helped lift the Huskies to a 3-0 victory over the Liberty Lions. 

Tallia Benson, Sophomore, Williams Field – Despite dropping Wednesday’s match to Campo Verde, Benson had an all-around strong performance with 14 kills, 13 digs, three aces and a block. 

Layla Handley, Senior, Perry – Helping lead the team to a 3-0 victory over Highland, Handley had 11 kills, eight digs and an ace.

Evan Hendrix, Sophomore, Notre Dame Prep – Against Cactus on Thursday, Hendrix had a whopping 20 kills, nine digs, three aces, two blocks and two assists to help the Saints blank the Cobras.

Emilee Horky, Senior, Seton Catholic – Setting a personal best with 27 kills, Horky’s strong all-encompassing performance also included 16 digs, three aces and two blocks to help the Sentinels defeat the Deer Valley Skyhawks 3-2.

Shelbie Lemm, Sophomore, St. Mary’s – In Wednesday’s 3-0 rout of Poston Butte, Lemm led the game with 19 kills and tied for the most digs with 10.

Deziray Lopez, Sophomore, North – Lopez led the team’s performance Thursday to help the Mustangs defeat the Alhambra Lions 3-1. She had 18 digs, nine kills and an ace.

Tressah Moon, Senior, Flowing Wells – On Tuesday, Moon led the team with 18 digs and 14 kills while also snagging three aces to help boost her team to victory over Rio Rico. 

Mikayla Shepston, Sophomore, Sunnyslope – Helping Sunnyslope defeat Chandler 3-1 on Tuesday, Shepston had 18 kills, 11 digs, a block and an ace for a solid all-around performance. 

Lauren Rumel, Senior, Catalina Foothills – Nearing her personal best she set last year, Rumel hammered down 43 kills in Tuesday’s game against Cienega. Rumel also had seven digs, three aces and two blocks to help the Falcons win it 3-2. 

Maren Matthews, Junior, Valley Vista – Back on the list again this week is Matthews, this time for her game-leading performance against Chandler on Thursday. Matthews had 17 digs, 11 kills and two aces to help the Monsoon defeat the Wolves 3-0. 

Chloe Murakami, Senior, Basha – With a whopping 27 kills, 16 digs, four aces and two blocks, Murakami helped Basha defeat Highland on Wednesday, 3-1.

Alina Nunez, Junior, Canyon del Oro – Canyon del Oro defeated the Amphitheater Panthers 3-0 led by Nunez, who racked up 17 kills, five digs, three blocks and three aces. 

Emma Soderstrom, Senior, Xavier College Prep – In Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Boulder Creek, Soderstrom led the attack with 16 digs, 15 kills, two aces and two assists.
