SBLive Top 20 Power Rankings: Chandler No. 1, Hamilton No. 2 ahead of showdown

Here are SBLive’s Top 20 Arizona high school football rankings for the week of Nov. 16.

Our statewide football rankings, which span all conferences, are released every Monday throughout the 2020 high school football season. The rankings are compiled by SBLive reporter Connor Morrissette.

Nov. 16, 2020

1. Chandler (6-0) beat No. 19 Highland 42-19

Last week’s ranking: No. 1

The Wolves beat No. 19 Highland 42-19. Chandler has won all six of its games by at least three scores.

2. Hamilton (6-0) beat Higley 42-36

Last week’s ranking: No. 2

Rodney Clemente rushed for more than 100 yards and three scores in the win. Hamilton and Chandler will square off this week.

3. Saguaro (4-1) beat Horizon 26-0

Last week’s ranking: No. 3

Saguaro held Horizon to 49 yards of offense.

4. Centennial (5-2) beat No. 10 Chaparral 42-28

Last week’s ranking: No. 4

Sophomore tailback Kavaughn Clark scored four touchdowns for Centennial.

5. Liberty (5-2) beat Brophy Prep 62-19

Last week’s ranking: No. 5

Liberty led 35-3 at halftime. Jordan Guevara caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Brock Mast in the win.

6. Queen Creek (5-2) beat Mountain Pointe 57-16

Last week’s ranking: No. 6

The Bulldogs have won three in a row.

7. Corona del Sol (7-0) beat Westwood 44-12

Last week’s ranking: No. 9

The Aztecs have outscored opponents 273-52 in their seven wins.

8. Desert Edge (7-0) beat Millennium 28-10

Last week’s ranking: No. 10

The Scorpions jumped out to a 28-0 lead.

9. Salpointe Catholic (5-0)

Last week’s ranking: No. 11

Salpointe Catholic beat Mountain View 35-6 on Saturday. David Cordero rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown.

10. Chaparral (2-2) lost to No. 4 Centennial 42-28

Last week’s ranking: No. 8

The Firebirds have lost to No. 4 Centennial and No. 5 Liberty. Their best win came against No. 12 Casteel, 53-36 on Nov. 6.

11. Williams Field (4-3) lost to Red Mountain 21-18

Last week’s ranking: No. 7

The Black Hawks were stunned by Red Mountain.

Williams Field beat No. 12 Casteel 31-28 on Oct. 23. The Black Hawks’ three losses are to No. 6 Queen Creek, No. 4 Centennial and Red Mountain.

12. Casteel (4-3) beat Desert Ridge 24-17

Last week’s ranking: No. 8

The Colts trailed 10-0, but Dominic Digian’s 18-yard rushing touchdown put Casteel ahead for good in the fourth quarter.

13. Boulder Creek (6-1) beat Valley Vista 41-14

Last week’s ranking: No. 13

Jacob Cisneros caught a 50-yard touchdown for the Jaguars.

14. Campo Verde (3-2) – Idle

Last week’s ranking: 17

Campo Verde didn’t play last week. The Coyotes’ two losses are to No. 11 Williams Field and No. 9 Salpointe Catholic. Those defeats are by a combined 17 points.

15. Ironwood (5-2) beat Apollo 29-20

Last week’s ranking: 17

Ironwood trailed 14-7 at halftime, but the Eagles fought back to win. They beat No. 16 Sunrise Mountain 20-11 on Oct. 30.

16. Sunrise Mountain (5-2)

Last week’s ranking: No. 18

Sunrise Mountain beat Verrado 42-14. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Mustangs. Sunrise Mountain beat No. 5 Liberty 37-33 on Oct. 16.

17. Mesquite (5-1) – Idle

Last week’s ranking: 19

Mesquite beat Marcos de Niza 44-21 two weeks ago. The Wildcats led 34-7 at halftime.

18. Pinnacle (2-3) beat Perry 52-20

Last week’s ranking: No. 20

The Pioneers led 34-7 at halftime.

19. Highland (4-3) lost to No. 1 Chandler 42-19

Highland trailed 21-13 at halftime but couldn’t keep up with the state’s top team in the second half.

20. Sunnyslope (5-0) beat Barry Goldwater 24-12

Sunnyslope enters the Top 20 after rattling off five wins by two scores or more.

Dropped out: Mountain View (Mesa)

Moved in: Sunnyslope
